Cleaning Silk Plants
by Nikki Willhite - Willhite@aol.com

Description: Tip for cleaning silk plants.

I am great at growing silk plants. Every other kind seems to die on me! Only problem is that they do get dusty. Have you seen the new aerosol spray cans for cleaning them? That's all we need is another cleaning product in our cupboards.

Here is alternative. Take a spray jar and mix it with one part vinegar and two parts water (or if you already have something similar made up- use that). Spray a very light coat on your silk plants (you may want to take them outside to do it). This should remove the dust accumulation on your plants.

Reader comment: Thanks for the article "How to clean silk plants". I have about ten outside in a protected area, but they are finally in need of cleaning or replacing. Thanks for the info...Donna
Reader comment: The best way I have found to clean silk plants is with rubbing alcohol. I put it full strength in a spray bottle and spray away. Making sure to also get the undersides of the leaves. Let it sit for a few minutes and spray with clear water. Voila the plant looks brand new. For the 5-6 foot ones, I do them in the bathtub, it contains the dirty drips and then I just have to hold the pot outside of the tub and let the shower spray away on them...Melody
Reader comment: If the plant is small enough and you have salt, put in a brown paper bag and shake like mad, my toddlers love the sound and love to make it disappear from the plants. OUTSIDE FUN, just not in the grass...Holley
