Kids in the Kitchen: Easy Apple Roll
by Susan Perovich

Description: Recipe for an easy apple roll your kids can help make.

I try to find something for my kids to make each day in the kitchen. One of their favorites is Apple Roll.

With three little ones, age three and under, it can be a task. So I let them experiment and play around a bit with this one.

Main ingredient!
One thawed bread dough

Ingredients we play with:
1 cup natural cereals (Let your child choose)
3 cup chopped up apples, pears or even fresh peaches
(any fruit will do)
1/3 cinnamon sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup raisins
1/3 chopped nuts
1/2 cup caramel topping
Butter

Getting it together!

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees

I set all ingredients in separate containers on the table so each child can dig in. First we put the thawed bread dough on to a greased baking dish. Then we wash our hands. While our hands are still wet, we press the dough all the way out, to the ends of the baking dish. Then we wash our hands again and dry. In the center of the dough only, allow each child to spread the soft butter onto the dough, using the back of a spoon.

Sprinkle time!
A term I use because the kids just seem to love the idea of sprinkling!

We sprinkle it with lots of cinnamon sugar.
Then we sprinkle on our chopped up fruit.
The we sprinkle on our cereal and chopped nuts.

Time to fold!
Moms must do this!
With a knife cut the sides of the dough into strips with a knife.

Once cut have the kids take the strips and pull them over top of the ingredients, folding them as they go.

Dripping Time!
Drip the caramel topping on top to make the perfect glaze!

Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes or until bread is golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream!

Enjoy!
