Spiritual Gift Giving
by Carolyn Ellis
Description: Ideas for giving spiritual Christmas gifts.
Sponsors:
In our house at Christmas each child only gets one present,
and that
present is always something "spiritual": a new rosary, a statue,
a life
of a saint...it is St. Nicholas day (December 6th) that we
exchange gifts
on in our house. The gifts we give are admittedly small,
easily fitting
into a 12-inch Christmas stocking. The younger children's
gifts will
most likely be used. The point of our departure from normal
Christmas
present mania is that many years ago my husband and I decided
that we would
do our best to keep Christmas as a spiritual holyday rather than
a wish
fulfillment fantasy. (Birthdays are our family's time for trying
to spread
a little wish fulfillment around.)
