You probably know that carpet cleaning is necessary to maintain the life of your carpet and to have a healthy home. But how often should you have your carpet cleaned? This depends on a number of different factors. Read this article for some tips that will help you decide how often to clean your carpet.

I will start with the best case scenario. The longest anyone wants to go between carpet cleanings is one year. Even if a carpet gets no traffic it is subject to dust and other environmental contaminants. You should clean your homes carpet every year if you have only one or two people in your home with no pets and are a non smoker. If you meet these conditions, clean your carpet once a year.

The next interval is once every nine months. Clean your carpet every nine months if you have children or pets or if you have a household of one or two whom are smokers. If you meet these requirements, clean your carpet once every nine months.

Clean your carpet every six months if you have kids and pets or kids and smokers in the family. The combinations of these factors makes twice yearly carpet cleaning necessary so if you meet these conditions clean it every six months.

Finally there is the three month interval. This is for homes that have pets, kids and smokers. If this is the case three months is the maximum you should go between cleanings as these factors are rough on a carpet and a home.

Use the previous internals as guidelines only. Every home is different. You for example might be able to go longer between cleanings if you have a lot of hard surfaces in the home. You also might have to clean the carpet more often if you live in a very humid or dusty environment. This should give you enough information to make a general decision about when to clean your carpets.
