Top Tips on Cleaning Your Carpets
by Pia Cammeron

A lot of people in today's day and age have some sort of machine that they use at home to clean their carpets with. In fact, it is quite common for people to clean their own carpets nowadays. Is this the case with you? If so, then here are several tips that can help you use your machine the right way. These tips will also work for rental units.

Before anything else, you need to know that you shouldn't directly use shampoo mixes in your tank. If you do, then that technically means that you are using shampoo to clean your carpet and this could result in quick resoiling. So, instead of putting shampoo in the tank, get a small pump sprayer and put the shampoo solution in there. Then, apply this solution onto the carpet and let it set for a while before using the machine to rinse it. Make sure the machine only has plain water in it, though. If you want, you can also add some white vinegar in it to act as a deodorant.

Another tip would to make sure that you make several rinse passes. The majority of people out there only do one pass without realizing that this can actually leave lots of residue and also result in quick resoiling. So, make a minimum of two passes instead and follow them up with several dry passes to get rid of more moisture.

Another tip that a lot of people tend to overlook is the pre-vacuum stage. Vacuuming before each cleaning happens to be very important since dry soil is easier to get rid of compared to wet soil. So, make sure you get rid of the dirt before it becomes sticky and muddy by cleaning it slowly and carefully. Also, make sure your vacuum is in tip-top shape and that the canister or bag doesn't have anything in it before you start.

Lastly, make sure you dry your carpet out as soon as you can. The faster you dry out your carpet, the fewer problems you will have in the long run, if any at all. If you have an HVAC system or a ceiling fan, you can use that to speed the drying process up, too. Conversely, if you only have portable or floor fans, those will help dry it up, as well. You can even rent a carpet fan if you want. Either way, try not to use your carpet until it is completely dry.

Now, as simple as these tips may seem, keep in mind that they can significantly improve your success at cleaning carpets. So, make sure you follow them to a tee in order to enjoy healthier and cleaner carpets in the end. Good luck!
