There are all kinds of brushes that may be used to clean your home. Some are used for certain chores, and may be recycled for other uses when they begin to show signs of wear. All of the brushes we use for cleaning should be washed and stored properly when chores are finished.
Potato brushes can be reused to clean porous surfaces on household items. The bottle brush can be recycled for use in cleaning in and around tire wells, and they work well to clean bottoms of boots that are laden with mud. Always wet the muddy shoes; and this project may need to be done near a garden hose outside to keep the mess off of floors in the home. Worn out paint brushes work wonders on piano keyboards to remove dust and other foreign matter in tight places. Cosmetic brushes will also clean small areas with tiny recesses. Toothbrushes work well around areas that are too small to clean with dishcloths in the kitchen, and they can reach in between air vents through out your home. Dampen paint brushes to clean in tiny areas such as air conditioner vents. Keeping these areas clean can reduce dust and pollens from building up and causing those with allergies to suffer.
Clean-up is essential to keep the brushes sanitized for repeated use. Use a solution of soap, hot water, and a small amount of bleach to wash the brushes out, and rinse with warm water until it runs clear. Allow the bristles to drain downward until dry. Keep all of your brushes in a recycled coffee can, except for the toilet bowl brush, which should have a holder by itself for sanitary reasons.
