Homemade All-Purpose Cleaning Spray

If you are looking to make your own environmentally friendly cleaning spray, this is an easy recipe that you can make up right in the spray bottle. What I like about this recipe is that you can choose your own scent by choosing your own essential oil.

To make this all-purpose cleaning spray, you will need:

  • Empty spray bottle
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp Borax*
  • 1 tsp mild dish detergent
  • Essential oil (optional)

* Borax is an inexpensive all-purpose cleaning powder you can buy in the laundry detergent section of the grocery store. It comes in a box and only costs a couple of dollars.

Mix the vinegar, Borax, and about a cup of hot water in the spray bottle. Gently shake the bottle until the Borax dissolves. Add the dish detergent and then fill the remainder of the bottle with water. Add several drops of essential oil.

I was very pleased with the scent of my cleaning spray...I used my favorite dish soap, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day basil-scented dish soap (available at Walmart). I also found essential oil at Walmart in the candle and potpourri section. For $2 I found a bottle of orange cilantro oil that mixed great with the scent of the dish soap.

That's it! This vinegar-based spray is great for cleaning any surface in your home. No toxic fumes to breathe while you clean!
