How to Keep Ants Out of Your Dog Food Dish

Ants are no fun. They seem to invade every crevice in the inside and outside of our homes, and they are really hard to get rid of. I have had a bad time with them in my garden this year too. The other day I found them in our dog’s food dish. It was swarming with ants!

I wasn’t expecting to see all those ants in our dog’s food dish. The dog’s dish was on our patio, next to the house. I could see that the ants were coming from under our home (thank goodness we haven’t found any IN our home).

I cleaned out the dish and replaced the food and water and soon the ants were back. One evening my husband was watching television and he saw a home remedy for deterring ants. Chalk! He said to draw a circle of chalk around the perimeter of the dog dish.

It sounded so crazy, it just might work! Your kids will love this. We drew a thick line with chalk all around the dog dish and waited. One or two ants braved it across the chalk desert, but most of them put one tiny foot in it and ran away. I’m not kidding. After 10 minutes or so almost all of the ants were gone back to wherever they came from. I cannot emphasize how many ants we had originally found in the food dish. There were HUNDREDS. They were swarming it. I can live with one or two.

This is one of those home remedies that you won’t believe until you see it. I had to try it for myself, and I am very pleased to announce that it WORKS!
