How to Clean the Garbage Disposal
by

As you probably already know, it is a good idea to clean your garbage disposal once in awhile. If you put a lot of food into your disposal, you might even want to consider cleaning it weekly. Here is an easy DIY tip that will keep your garbage disposal clean and smelling fresh.

It is also good to keep your disposal blades sharp and in top shape. This cleaning method will also help sharpen your blades.

  • Ice cube trays
  • Lemons
  • White vinegar
  • Ziploc freezer bag

First cut the lemons into small pieces that will fit into the ice cube trays. Place a small piece of lemon in each ice cube tray compartment.

Pour white vinegar over the lemon pieces to fill up the ice cube trays and place in the freezer.

Remove cubes from ice cube tray and store in a freezer bag in the freezer.

To use, place one cube into your garbage disposal and turn on the disposal. The ice will work to sharpen your disposal blades, and the vinegar and lemon will work together to both clean your disposal and help keep it smelling fresh.

That's it! You can buy expensive garbage disposal cleaners at the store, but this DIY cleaner is easy, inexpensive, and a very effective cleaner.

Note: If you don't have any lemons on hand, you can also just freeze cubes of vinegar. The vinegar is a great cleaner all on its own.
