How to Clean Your Sponge

Description: Easy tips for cleaning and disinfecting your kitchen sponge.

Sponges usually always pick up bacteria and other viruses if they are used for a long time without cleaning. There are two ways to make sure your sponges are cleaned and sanitized. Make sure you follow the steps below in order to prevent germs and bacteria from your sponge.

Start by rinsing the sponge with clean water. Make sure the sponge is wet. Then, put the sponge in the microwave. Microwave the sponge on the highest setting. An ordinary kitchen sponge should take about two minutes until it is ready to be taken out from the microwave. Then, remove the sponge from the microwave very carefully. This will be hot. Let it sit and cool and then your sponge will be clean and ready for another use! Another way you can clean and sterilize the sponge is by using bleach. Start by adding one teaspoon of bleach to one cup of water. Then, you should soak the sponge in the bleach solution for about five minutes at the least.

Lastly, wring out the bleach solution. After you have completed these steps, your sponge should now be ready again for more uses! A tip to remember while putting the sponge in the microwave is to make sure it is wet. If the sponge is not wet before placing into the heat, it could start on fire. You don't want anything else in your home getting ruined to pay close attention to the steps above.

Now that there should be no more germs and bacteria on your sponge, you are able to use it again!
