The Easy Way to Clean Kitchen Ceilings and Walls
by Rachel Paxton

It's time to start thinking about spring cleaning again! I recently stumbled on this neat idea for cleaning grease from kitchen ceilings and walls. It works great! It just takes a little elbow grease and your favorite homemade household cleaner.

cleaning kitchen wallsDid you know you can mop your kitchen ceiling and walls?

I never would have thought to try it, but it really works! I had no idea how much grease had built up on my white painted ceiling. We have only lived in this house a couple of years, and I have never cleaned the ceiling, so who knows how long it's been since it's been cleaned.

I decided to try using my homemade floor cleaner as the cleaner. It has some Dawn dishwashing liquid in it, which is perfect for cutting through grease on ceilings and walls. I just poured some of the cleaning solution into an inexpensive plastic spray bottle.

Start by lightly spraying the areas where you want to clean. Look for a spray bottle that has a high output sprayer on it. I was able to find some for only a couple of dollars at Walmart.

It is a good idea to start with a clean mop head. I use an inexpensive sponge mop. If your mop isn't really clean when you start out, you will just be putting more dirt on your walls, and you don't want that to happen.

Get your mop wet and get as much water as you can out of it. You don't want your ceilings or walls dripping with water. I even let my mop set for a few minutes to let it dry out some more.

Next gently start mopping your ceiling. You will be shocked at how much grease comes off. I didn't even know what color my ceiling was supposed to be! The bad thing is, after you get started you can't stop, or you will have streaks where you have cleaned.

It took a little longer than I expected to get it all done, but I was very happy with how it turned out. Don't worry if you miss a spot, you can always go back and get it later.

I gave my kitchen ceiling and walls all a good cleaning today. I'm definitely feeling it tonight!

Well, that's one item to check off my spring cleaning list. On to the next chore!
