How to Remove Kool Aid Stains
by Brent Cone

Description: Expert tips for removing kool aid stains from your carpet.

Kool Aid can be a mess! It's great stuff, until you have to clean it up! The dreaded red dye is the worst! Unfortunately, people have been living with red spots on their carpet and clothes. Well, there is a method that can remove kool-aid and leave your clothing and carpet looking new.

First, DO NOT RUB THE STAIN! Blot the stain! This will keep the stain from burying into the carpet fibers making it more difficult to remove. A good quality paper towel (brawny) works well. Continue to blot the stain until there is no more red color on the paper towel. Once the red color is gone then it is time to start the removal process.

The method used to remove the red color from the carpet is called Heat Transfer. This method requires some tools. You will need a water bucket, steam iron, a cloth towel (wash cloth) and ammonia. All of these products can be purchased at your local grocery store.

Follow these steps:

1. Let iron heat up (medium heat)

2. Take the water bucket and mix 1 part hot water and 1 part ammonia

3. Place the cloth towel in the bucket

4. Remove the towel from bucket and wring out

5. Place the towel on top of stain

6. Take the iron and place on top of wet towel

7. Leave for 20-25 seconds and remove (stain will transfer to towel)

*at this point stain should be removed from carpet to the towel
*do not re-treat too many times or your carpet color will fade!

Be sure to watch the iron carefully! If you start to smell anything unusual remove the iron immediately! This process works, but be careful!
