DIY No-Bleach Soft Scrub
by

In the past year I have been trying out a variety of homemade household cleaning products. I can't believe it took me this long to run across homemade Soft Scrub! This homemade alternative is bleach free, cleans great, and smells good too.

I have always been a fan of Soft Scrub. I use it to get my toilets and kitchen sink sparkling white. The only thing I don't like about it is that I always get a drop of it on my clothing somewhere and it leaves a bleach stain! I was very happy to find this homemade version. I actually like it better than the store bought version.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 c. castile soap
  • 3/4 c. baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 10 drops Tea Tree Oil
  • 1 tbsp. white vinegar

I looked all over Walmart for castile soap, but I couldn't find any. This isn't an inexpensive soap, but it is all natural. So if you are looking for a non-toxic all natural cleanser, it is worth seeking out the castile soap. I ended up finding it in a specialty grocery store that carries a lot of health food items. They also had the tea tree oil.

I actually couldn't find plain castile soap but they did have a variety of castile soaps that already contain essential oils. I found one that already had tea tree oil in it so I didn't need to add extra later.

Mix castile soap and baking soda together in a bowl. Stir in the water and tea tree oil. After they are well mixed, slowly stir in the vinegar. If you pour it all in at one time it will react with the baking soda and make a big bubbly mess. You should end up with a nice white paste very similar in texture to Soft Scrub. You can add more baking soda if it looks too runny.

I put my Soft Scrub in a recycled spaghetti sauce jar. You could also put it in a canning jar or an empty bottle like an empty dish soap bottle.

I think you will be very happy with the results of this homemade version of Soft Scrub. The tea tree oil gives it a GREAT smell. It almost makes me want to go clean the bathroom.
