Assigning a chore to your teenage child is probably one of the most impossible things to do. Yes, they are capable of doing the chore. But the question here is “Will they do it?”.
Letting them clean their own room is already a gargantuan task. How much more if you let them clean the toilet? This is most probably an extra challenge for you. Not to worry, dear parents. This article has tips on how to have your children clean the toilet.
My first tip is to play truth or dare with your young adults. You might think that it sounds immature and inappropriate but it definitely works. Take it from me. Your kids will think that you are one cool mom for playing a game like that with them. If your kid chooses dare, have him or her clean the bathroom. Set a specific time for this dare to make sure that he or she thoroughly cleans your bathroom.
Tip number two is for punishment purposes. Instead of letting your son or daughter stay inside the room, have him or her clean the toilet instead. In this generation, staying inside the room is a form of leisure instead of punishment. Your kids can access the internet, talk to other friends via the cellphone, listen to music with the iPod, or even play with PSP. Rather than having them do that, let them clean the toilet.
With these two tips, I am sure that you can get them to clean “the throne”. While you are at it, why not teach your kids how to clean the toilet without using harsh chemicals? This way, their skin won’t get irritated when they clean. You will need rubber gloves, toilet brush, baking soda, and vinegar. Here’s one way to do it:
Method # 1:
- Prepare baking soda and pour half of it into the bowl. Make sure that you will not be using the bathroom overnight so you don’t unintentionally flush the baking soda.
- Leave it on until morning. This way, much of the dirt is removed.
- As soon as you get to the toilet in the morning, flush more than once. The baking soda takes the crud with it as it is washed out.
Method # 2:
- Dust half a cup of baking soda to your bowl. Add 2 cups of vinegar.
- Let the vinegar and baking soda stay for about 30 minutes.
- After waiting, scrub your bowl with your toilet brush.
- If there are still stains, make a solution out of vinegar and baking soda. Continue scrubbing the toilet.
Method # 3:
- Pour one cup of vinegar on the inside (and outside) of the bowl.
- Leave it on for approximately 30 minutes.
- Dampen a toilet brush and dust it with a fistful of baking soda. Scrub the bowl with this toilet brush.
- Do this several times until you are satisfied with your toilet.
With the tips in this article, I am sure that your young adults will not find toilet cleaning a difficult job. They don’t only learn to be responsible but also concerned with our environment. Take care! I hope that my tips can help you.
