Ingredients:
1/2 cup Crisco
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk
2 eggs, separated
1/3 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup pastry flour
Cooking Instructions:
Cream the Crisco well. Add sugar gradually. Add the 2 egg yolks with salt and beat very light. Add the cocoa and vanilla. Next the milk and pastry flour should be added alternately. Beat thoroughly. If bread flour is used it may be tough because of the gluten. The success of this cake depends on the beating before the egg whites are added. Lastly fold in the beaten egg whites. Bake in a 9 inch square pan in which it will only be one inch deep. A powdered sugar icing may be used. Bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned.
