1 - 12 oz. loaf Italian or French bread 4 eggs 1 c. half and half 3 T. sugar |
1 t. vanilla extract 1/8 t. ground nutmeg powdered sugar |

Cut bread crosswise into 16 slices. Lay bread slices into a jelly roll pan, overlapping slices if necessary. In a large bowl, beat eggs with next 4 ingredients. Pour mixture over bread in pan, turning slices occasionally to coat both sides and until mixture is absorbed. Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Place bread slices on 2 large greased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes on each side, or until golden. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. |
