Dipped Marshmallows on a Stick

These dipped marshmallows on a stick are really fun. I made them for the hot cocoa bar we had at our daughter's wedding reception, but you can make these at home any time for a fun treat for your kids. They are a fun way to stir your hot cocoa and enjoy a tasty treat too.

To make these dipped marshmallows you will need:

  • Large marshmallows
  • Candy melts
  • Crushed candy canes
  • Candy sprinkles
  • Lollipop sticks

I used lollipop sticks to make these, but you can also use coffee stirring sticks. They are a much less expensive choice, but I do think the lollipop sticks do look fancier if you are making these for a special occasion.

Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. Place all the marshmallows you are going to use on the lollipop sticks and place on the cookie sheet. You can use the extra large marshmallows if you like, but I just used the regular sized large marsmallows. Make sure that you buy more marshmallows than you are going to need. Not all of the marshmallows that come in the bag are going to be perfectly shaped so you may have to weed out a few.

Next melt the chocolate in the microwave. You can use milk chocolate or white chocolate. I used white chocolate and then rolled the marshmallows in crushed candy canes. These ones were the BEST.

To melt the chocolate, place chocolate in a microwaveable bowl and heat on high in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and heat another 30 seconds. Repeat one more time and the chocolate should be melted.

I thought these marshmallows would be hard to dip, but it was really very easy. Have all your toppings poured onto paper plates before you are ready to start dipping. You can use crushed candy canes, sprinkles, or even flaked coconut.

Pick up one of the marshmallow sticks and gently roll the marshmallow in the melted chocolate. Roll the stick between your hands to shake off the extra chocolate. Next roll the marshmallow in the topping of your choice.

Place the marsmallow back on the waxed paper and continue with the remainder of the marshmallows.

These marshmallows can be stored in the refrigerator until you are going to use them. It is recommended not to make them more than three or four days in advance of when you are going to need them or the marshmallows will start to dry out.

To serve, you can place the marshmallows on a serving tray next to your hot cocoa fixings. If you are going to give them as gifts you can wrap them individually in cellophane and tie with a ribbon. These make a great holiday gift.
