Healthy Snack Ideas for Kids

Sometimes it can just be easier to fill your kids’ lunch box with a packet of potato chips or a candy bar, especially if you have had a long day at work and don't feel like preparing some healthy snacks.

The same thing can easily happen at the weekends too. Your child declares that they are hungry in between meals, and the only things on hand are more processed junk. Wouldn't it be great if you could avoid these situations, and have some healthy snacks already prepared, or be able to whip something healthy up in a few minutes? Well now you can, as I have listed a few of my favorite healthy snack ideas for kids that are easy to prepare on a regular basis, and will keep your kids hunger locked up until the next meal.

Fruit Pieces

It's so easy to chop up some fruit such as apples and pears, and then store them in a container in the fridge. To stop the fruit going brown, they can be sprinkled with lemon juice. You can also add other fruits such as grapes, blueberries and strawberries. Dried fruit is great to use as well.

Homemade Pizza

Pizza doesn't have to be full of calories, not if you make it yourself! One of the main benefits of pizza is that you can make it one night in the week and then store it in the fridge. It can then be stored for a quite a few days after, and as your kids will testify, cold pizza tastes really good. Just go easy on the cheese to keep this snack healthy, and also only serve a slice at a time.

Nuts

Don't use salted or roasted nuts found on supermarket shelves. Instead, go for nuts such as cashews, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts and almonds. Not only are these snacks very filling and tasty, but they also contain lots of health benefits, and are a great source of good fats.

Smoothie

If you have a blender, then another healthy snack idea for kids is to whip them up a quick smoothie. It doesn't need to be complicated to be tasty and healthy. Simply put a banana in the blender, along with some oats and honey, and then add a bit of milk. Blend for about a minute, and hey presto, you have a quick and healthy snack for your kids.

Juice

As well as making them a smoothie, you can also try out your own homemade juice if you have a juicing machine. The great thing about these machines is you can use vegetables as well as fruits. Orange juice, carrot juice or apple juice. The choices are endless, and juice is a great way to supply your children with extra calories in a completely healthy way.

Vegetable with Cheese

This is really simple to prepare, and is a good way to get kids eating more vegetables. The list of vegetables is endless. You can use celery and carrots accompanied by a cream cheese for dipping. These kinds of snacks go down really well with kids, and it gets them used to eating vegetables on a regular basis.

Crackers

Whole wheat and whole grain crackers are a lot healthier than other choices such as potato chips, but are just as filling. You can put a range of spreads on top of them to make it more exciting. Crackers can easily be put in lunch boxes, making them the perfect addition for lunch time at school.

Conclusion

Healthy snack ideas for kids are everywhere. Don't be afraid to use your imagination and try out some new things. The most important thing about providing healthy snacks is that it forms good habits with your children that will be continued later on in life.
