Are you an expert in making mouthwatering macaroons, or
that perfect peanut butter balls? Would you like to send
them as gift to someone you love? If the answer to both the
questions is yes but you don't know how your tasty treats
would cover the distance from your oven to the recipient's
dining table, you need not worry. All you have to do is to
carefully package and then ship your cookies. Only some
points need to be kept in mind.
You have to consider the type of cookie you wish to send
before baking. Only those cookies that can withstand
handling should be sent. So it would be better to send
shortbreads or basic biscotti that are sturdy rather than
the delicate Madelines. You should also keep in mind the
ingredients you can use. Perishable products like custards
and fillings, frostings containing eggs, milk or cream
cheese should be avoided. The reason for avoiding them is
that they could get spoilt even before your gift reaching
the recipient, potentially causing illness. This should
always be kept in mind, as you want to send friend a gift
of goodies and not anything to cause him harm. The
destination of your gift is also important. Cookies having
ingredients like chocolate chips, candy bits, caramel or
marshmallow fluff should not be sent to a warm climate as
they have a tendency of melting and would create as
inedible mess before our friend has a chance of opening the
package.
The next step after the cookies are ready to go is the
packing. You must pack all the items in an airtight
container in order to protect them from getting
contaminated on the way. If your cookie is soft and chewy
you can add a slice of bread to prevent it from getting dry
and stale. And if you are sending more than one type of
cookies make sure to separate them. For instance if you are
sending chewy and crispy cookies together, the chewy ones
will become crunchy and the crispy ones will become soggy
if you don't separate them. If you are sending many layers
of cookies, then separate each layer with parchment paper.
The advantage of parchment paper is that it does not sweat
like the wax papaer or the plastic wrap and it also
provides a buffer.
To seal the box containing cookies, use packing elements
like a bubble wrap or packaging peanuts. These provide a
good cushion around our cookies and prevent them from
crumbling during shipment. A sturdy cardboard box with
plenty of room is an ideal container, as it would avoid our
cookies from crumbling due to close proximity. If you could
afford to shell out a few extra bucks for faster delivery,
it would ensure that your cookies arrive to your friend
without being crumbled and broken. Finally, label your box
properly with the recipient's and your own address.
Homemade cookies are an excellent gift choice for any
occasion, from birthdays to those ~just because~ days.
Wisely packaging your cookies for mailing will ensure your
recipient enjoys your cookies and you will enjoy their glee
upon opening a package filled with your sweet treats.
