If you're looking for quick and easy family dinner ideas that will satisfy your hungry family and get you out of the kitchen fast then simple stew recipes are a great idea. Easy and delicious stew recipes were made for busy families! Look for recipes with ingredients that are readily available in your grocery store and that can be prepped and popped into the stew pot with ease.

The concept of 'stew' or food that is slowly cooked together in liquid can be traced back as far as the book of Genesis in the Bible, and the first known stew recipes were found in an ancient Roman cookbook. In early American colonies, poor families ate stew as a group from a common 'trencher' that was often made from stale bread which they either ate with their stew or tossed to animals when the meal was finished. The stews usually consisted of pork and any root vegetables they had, along with cabbage and corn.

Your family will love the following quick and easy stew recipes, and you'll appreciate the ease of one pot cooking with scrumptious results.
