Firecracker Bites for the Fourth of July

While I was grocery shopping today, I noticed a cute Fourth of July snack idea on a box of Nilla Wafers. They were called "Firecracker Bites" and looked really easy to make.

While looking at the recipe I also noticed it was really fattening and required a number of expensive ingredients (cool whip, pudding, cream cheese). You also have to freeze them until they are ready to serve.

Firecracker Bites

I came up with a less fattening, healthier alternative that I also thought turned out pretty cute. For this recipe you will need:

  • Nilla Wafers (we used the mini ones)
  • Banana
  • Whipped Cream in a can
  • Twizzlers licorice
  • Red, white, blue sprinkles

Your kids can even help make this snack. These firecracker bites are very easy to put together.

Slice the banana into thin slices. Place one slice of banana in between two Nilla Wafers.

On top of each cookie, place a little dab of whipped cream. We used the kind that you spray out of a can, but any whipped topping would work fine.

Take a Twizzler and separate it into strands. Cut one strand into very small pieces and place one piece standing straight up into the center of each dab of whipped cream.

Sprinkle the red, white, and blue sprinkles on top. Enjoy!

These firecracker bites make a fun snack for the Fourth of July or any summer afternoon.
