Girls Costume Ideas

There is nothing more adorable than little girls playing dress up. Their imaginations seem limitless as they try on one creative costume after another. Let's explore some fun costume ideas for girls!

Flower Power

This costume requires a green leotard and matching tights. Next, you can make or buy a green headband. Cut out and affix double thick petal shapes made of felt to the headband. The petals should be cut to about 6 inches or so in length. Use varying shades in the same color family for a lovely flower costume.

Bunch of Grapes

Dress your little sweetie in a sweat suit or tights and leotard and then cover her in purple balloons, just past half way blown up. Affix balloons with small safety pins and shape into a bunch. Add a green felt or paper hat made to resemble a stem.

Static Cling

For a girl who enjoys a good joke! Start with sweats, tee shirt and jeans or tights and leotard. Next, attach a dozen or so small items all over her, front and back. Use small socks in various colors, handkerchiefs and whatever else looks like it would cling.

Ketchup and Mustard

This would be a fun idea for twins or two little girl friends. Using heavy duty foil, make two foil suits, which cover each girl front and back. They should be rectangular and resemble ketchup packets. Next, using white craft paper, make the detail portion of the packets. For example, for the ketchup draw and color in a tomato and write ketchup in black letters across the sign. Glue these to the foil packets. Put the girls in black sweats or tights and leotards and then slip on their packets and they are ready to go!

Bag of Candy

Start with a leotard and tights in black, next cut holes in a large black trash bag, just big enough for two little girl legs. Have her step into the bag as if she is putting on a pair of pants. Fill the bag with half way blown up balloons in a variety of bright colors. You have a sweet treat!

Oh Baby

This one is easy and will work for various ages! Dress your angel in footed pajamas or other suitable PJ's. Brush her hair into a high pony tail and tie a little ribbon in her hair. Have her carry a little baby blanket and teddy bear. For extra fun, buy her a pacifier and real bottle to drink from. So sweet!

Role Reversal

Have your cutie and her friend wear each others clothes, shoes and accessories. Fix their hair in each others styles and call them by each others names. They will laugh at the mix up!

Let's Play Cards

Start with white clothes. Purchase two large pieces of thin white cardboard (the kind used for school projects). Using a deck of cards, choose and copy your favorite card, on the cardboard, front and back. Attach and you have a little card!

There are a miriad of ways you can assemble your girls costume.  You can also purchase one off the shelf or over the internet.  There is a Canadian costume website which specialized in costumes for girls at girlscostumes.ca.  There you'll find some other inspired costume ideas.
