Teach Your Kids How To Write Rhyming Halloween Poetry

All children enjoy going out to trick-or-treat on Halloween. They get excited weeks earlier when trying to decide upon their costume of choice. Their imaginations soar while engaging in Halloween themed activities both at school and at home. As parents, we could stimulate their minds by helping them write their own Halloween rhyming poetry.

They will be so proud of their literary creations. Once they’re done, you could encourage them to share their Halloween poems with their friends. They may include their unique poems inside Halloween cards, feature them on certain Halloween crafts, or just email/text them to their friends.

Here are a few easy steps that will help you write beautiful Halloween poems with your children:

1. Brainstorm Ideas and Read Some Examples – begin by asking your child to list random Halloween related words. You may assist them by providing some hints. Once you have a descent number of words, read some Halloween poetry examples, that you could easily find online via the major search engines.

2. Pick a Topic – ask your child to pick a Halloween themed topic to write the poem about. Their poem could be about a ghost, witch, mummy, monster, haunted house, vampire, dark forest, and so much more. Since the topic decision is up to your child, he/she will be motivated to write the poem.

3. Rhyming Dictionary – type rhyming dictionary at Google.com and choose a free online rhyming dictionary you would like to use.

4. Ask Questions – begin writing the poem with your child by asking questions about the topic and what is happening at every turn. You may help choose appropriate rhymes by giving a list of possible rhymes from the rhyming dictionary.

5. Have Fun – make sure this fun and educational poetry session is light-hearted by laughing, sharing jokes, and having fun.

6. Share – don’t forget to remind your child to share their final masterpiece with their friends.

I hope you enjoy your Halloween poetry session with your kids. Not only will it be educational and stimulating for their minds, but they’ll also have lots of fun.
