Lunchbox treats are always a nice way to let family members know how special they really are. Although lunchbox treats are always appreciated any day of the year, they can be an especially nice touch for Valentine's Day. A special treat tucked into each family member's lunchbox is the perfect way to commemorate this special day. Here are a few easy and inexpensive treats you can make to celebrate the "love" holiday this year.
Decorated Cookies
Cookies are always a welcome sweet treat in almost anyone's lunchbox or bag. For Valentine's Day, heart-shaped cutout cookies can be a great choice. Make a batch of your favorite cutout cookie dough. If you want to make your cookies even more fun, add a few drops of red food coloring so that the dough is tinted a pretty pink shade. Roll out the dough then cut with heart-shaped cutters. After the cookies are baked and cooled, the decorating fun can begin. You can use frosting, sprinkles, small cinnamon candies or candy "conversation hearts" to decorate each cookie. Tuck a cookie in each lunchbox as a fun Valentine's Day surprise.
Love Notes
Fun and sentimental notes have long been a popular way to let people know how much you care. You can be as creative and artistic as you'd like when creating your lunchbox notes. Whether you choose to include a simple note on a folded piece of paper or a more elaborately designed card, the recipient will have the pleasure of knowing how much you really care.
Fun Lunch Treats
If you prefer to pack healthy lunches for your family, sweet cookies might not be on the daily menu. Instead, you can use creative techniques to transform everyday lunchbox fare into fun Valentine's Day treats. For example, try using a heart-shaped cookie cutter to turn plain peanut butter sandwiches into heart-shaped sandwiches. You could also cut cucumber slices or other vegetable slices into heart shapes. Or, try making your own tortilla chips. Simply use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut soft tortillas. Toast them in the oven until crispy then sprinkle with seasoning. Be sure to let your chips cool completely before placing them in plastic bags. You could also transform plain bread slices into fun heart-shaped croutons, perfect for a lunchtime salad. Simply cut tiny hearts out of bread slices with a small cutter. Brush the croutons with a small amount of olive oil, sprinkle with seasoning if desired, and toast in the oven.
Decorated Lunch Bags
Why not make the bags you use to pack lunches for your family members as special as the lunches you put inside? This Valentine's Day, surprise your family with lunches packed in specially decorated lunch bags. It's easy to do using plain paper lunch bags, decorative paper scraps, yarn, sequins, decals and other embellishments. When you're finished decorating the bags, write each person's name on his or her lunch bag to add a personalized touch. Once the lunches are packed, toss a few candy "conversation hearts" inside each bag before folding it shut to add the perfect finishing touch.
