Valentine's Day Crispy Rice Treat Bouquet
by Alyssa Davis

If you're looking for a great Valentine's Day table centerpiece that is as delicious as it is pretty, crispy rice cereal could be the perfect building material. This delicious centerpiece is easy to make, and can be a fun project for children to make. You can make this centerpiece as large or small as you'd like, just by adding more crispy rice hearts to the bouquet. Here's how to make this cute centerpiece:

Materials You Will Need

To make this bouquet, you will need a box of crispy rice cereal, such as Rice Krispies™. In most cases, you'll be able to find the basic recipe for the crispy rice marshmallow treats right on the box. Gather the ingredients you'll need for the recipe, in addition to some non-stick cooking spray and a cookie sheet. You'll also need lollipop sticks, some melting chocolate, a small decorative opaque vase and some Styrofoam. To decorate and finish off your Valentine bouquet, you'll need some decorative ribbon. If you plan to give the bouquet as a gift, you'll also need some clear basket wrap. If you don't have any cellophane basket wrap, you could simply use plastic food wrap.

Making the Valentines

Start by spraying a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Then, make a recipe of crispy rice treats. Spray your hands with cooking spray, then form handfuls of the marshmallow crispy rice mixture into heart shapes. If you are making this bouquet with children, you could have each child make their own crispy rice Valentine. Before the hearts harden, stick a lollipop stick in each one. Lay them on the greased cookie sheet so that they can cool and harden. Melt the chocolate and drizzle it over the hearts. A combination of white, pink and red melting chocolate can create a nice Valentine's Day visual effect. Of course, you could also use milk or dark chocolate to drizzle on the hearts if you prefer. Depending on the size of your vase, you'll probably need approximately 4 or 5 crispy rice hearts.

Prepare the Vase

While your crispy rice hearts are cooling, prepare the decorative vase. Start by cutting a small piece of Styrofoam sized and shaped to fit inside the neck of the vase. Push the Styrofoam down far enough so that it is not visible, but not so far that it falls to the bottom of the vase.

Assembling the Valentine Bouquet

Once the vase has been prepared and the crispy rice hearts have hardened, you can assemble the bouquet centerpiece. Poke the lollipop stick of the crispy rice hearts into the Styrofoam, arranging them attractively in the vase. If you'd like to add an even more attractive look, you can use ribbon, glitter or other materials to decorate the vase. If you are planning to use the Valentine bouquet to decorate your own table, you can simply display the filled vase. However, if you want to give the bouquet as a gift, you'll want to protect it for easy transport. Wrap the entire vase and bouquet, using clear cellophane basket wrap or plastic food wrap.
