Spiral Snowman Ornament Fun!
by April Mott

As a preschool teacher I am constantly trying to come up with new fun and easy crafts for my students which is no easy task. So when I came across these Spiral snowmen ornaments I new it would be a great project to do with my kids next Christmas. These ornaments are so cute and the kids just love to make different and unique ornaments to take home and put on their Christmas tree.

Needed supplies to make a snowman ornament:

  • Small paper plate
  • Scissors
  • One piece of black construction paper
  • Two small twigs
  • Markers
  • Tacky glue
  • Hole puncher
  • Green yarn

Well this snowman ornament is a lot like making paper plate snakes, if you have ever made one of those. First you take a small paper plate preferably a thin one it is easier to cut through and then cut from the outside in a spiral to the center leaving a big enough circle to be the snowman's head. Now on the black construction paper draw a top hat and cut it out. Note that you will want to make sure that your hat size is in proportion with your snowman's head you don't want to end up with a hat to big or to small. Then cut a small piece of green yarn and glue around the snowman's neck leaving the two ends to hang off to the side (this will be the scarf). Glue the top hat on the snowman's head and a quarter of the way down glue one twig on each side of the snowman for arms. Allow at least twenty minutes to dry. After everything is dry you can take your markers and draw in your snowman's face with button eye's and a carrot for a nose. Now take your whole puncher and and punch a whole at the top of the hat. Cut another small piece of your green yarn then push through the whole in the hat and tie it, now you have a hanger for your Christmas ornament.

Most of the supplies needed can be found around the house so always check first before you run to the store. For the twigs just look in your back yard you are sure to find some there. Make this experience fun with your kids by going on a scavenger hunt around the house or take a hike before you start you never know what you will find that would be great for your snowman ornament.
