Apps to Survive Thanksgiving
by Greg Buckskin

It’s time to stuff the turkey bird and gather round the dinner table. Thanksgiving is a time of celebration and togetherness. But it can also be a time of high stress cooking, heartburn, and weight gain. Here’s a few Thanksgiving geared apps to help your survive your turkey day festivities.

Thanksgiving Kitchen Help

Thanksgiving is all about food and getting that food prepared can cause more than just a little stress. Here are some apps to help lower your blood pressure during turkey day kitchen preparations.

Chow Thanksgiving Dinner Coach is an app for new initiates to the Thanksgiving meal scene. It’s free to download and available for the apple iOS. If you’ve never hosted a full blown Thanksgiving dinner, this app will give you a step by step guide to creating a lovely meal made up of up to nine traditional and delicious dishes. The app provides newbies with a step by step guide for meal preparation that takes them through the entire week leading up to Thanksgiving. It also has a great function to help you figure out cooking time for your turkey.

In the Kitchen is a cooking app geared to the Thanksgiving chef/expert. It’s currently available for the apps iOS. Put together by the Food Network, the app is packed with great food content. It includes a list of featured chefs' recipies for you to look through. There’s also some great timer and cooking conversion tools in the app. They’ve also made the app social media friendly with emailing, Tweeting, and Facebook options. One downside is to sync and get recipes, you do have to have an account with the Food Network website, and you can’t sign up for one through the app.

Thanksgiving Entertainment

Cookie Doodle is the perfect app to keep your kids entertained and out of your hair while you get your Thanksgiving feast prepared. The apps allow kiddies to create their own customized electronic cookies. Kids get to roll out the dough with their own rolling pin, and then select different frostings, candies, and sprinkles to customize their sugar packed cookie creation.

Word Spree Thanksgiving Lite app is compatible with the apple iOS 3.1.3 or later and is free. Keep all bored Thanksgiving revelers entertained with this word spree. The app gives you a Thanksgiving themed story to fill in the blanks. With up to 15 stores that can be saved, shared, Twittered, emailed, and even put on Facebook. There are different categories of stories. If you get stumped, there’s even a randomize button that will insert a random word for you.

Thanksgiving Weight Loss

When the big turkey day is all said and done, we all seem to have a little more in the fridge (leftovers) and on our middles and backsides then we started with. Lose It, is a nutritional and diet tracking app that has helped people loose over six million pounds. It’s a free download and available for the apple iOS 3.0 or higher. This app allows you to enter all your own vitals like age, weight, gender, and then set your weight and nutritional goals. It will calculate a daily caloric budget for you. The really cool part is the app actually has a built in database of nutritional values for all kinds of foods. You can also keep a daily food journal and ensure that you’ve lost your Thanksgiving turkey fat before the Christmas Party rolls around.
