Two Fun Valentine's Day Treats for Kids
Valentine's Day is a great time to show people how much you love them and care about them. What better way to show them than with a homemade treat? Here are some fun Valentine's Day treat ideas for kids.
Valentine's Day Chex Mix
There are many Chex Mix recipes that you can enjoy for holidays or any time. Here is a great red and pink Chex Mix that your family or friends can enjoy for Valentine's Day. To make this Chex Mix recipe you will need:
9 c. Rice Chex
1 c. white vanilla baking chips
1/2 c. peanut butter
1/4 c. margarine
3/4 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. red, white, and pink M&M's
1/4 c. red or pink sprinkles (jimmies)
Note: If you can't find any Valentine's Day M&M's, substitute the candies of your choice. Red, pink, and white candy corn also work great, or even cinnamon red hots!
In a microwaveable bowl, place baking chips, peanut butter, and margarine. Heat on high for 30 seconds, stir, and then cook for another minute until vanilla chips and margarine are melted.
Place the Rice Chex in a large bowl, and then pour the vanilla/peanut butter mixture over the Rice Chex. Stir the mixture until it is evenly coated.
Take half of the mixture and place it in a gallon sized ziploc bag. Add the powdered sugar and shake the bag until the cereal mixture is completely coated with the powdered sugar.
In a large bowl combine the rest of the coated cereal with the M&M's and jimmies, stirring to coat.
Place both the powdered sugar covered cereal and the cereal mixed with the M&M's onto separate pieces of waxed paper to cool. When the mixtures have cooled, pour both mixtures into a large bowl and stir gently to combine.
Valentine Brownie Pops
These fun brownie pops are similar to cake pops, but are made from brownies instead. They are very easy to make and decorate for Valentine's Day. To make these you will need:
Heart-shaped silicone molds
Chocolate or vanilla baking chips
These brownie pops are very easy to make with silicone molds. You can find these mini cake pans at most stores during the holidays. They come in every shape imaginable, so you should have no problem finding heart shaped ones for Valentine's Day.
Using your favorite brownie recipe or mix, prepare the brownie batter and bake in the silicone molds. After the brownies are cooled, melt a small amount of the vanilla baking chips in the microwave and use to insert the lollipop sticks in the bottom of each heart-shaped brownie. Dip each stick into the melted chocolate and then insert into brownie. The melted chocolate will help hold the stick in the brownie.
Let the brownie pops sit on waxed paper until the chocolate has hardened. Place the remainder of the baking chips in a microwaveable bowl and heat in the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir and then place back in microwave and cook on high for 60 seconds until completely melted.
Dip each brownie pop into melted chocolate and lay on a wire baking rack to dry. Add sprinkles if desired.
These fun Valentine's Day desserts are easy to make and are sure to put a smile on anyone's face, whether it be your family or co-workers. Surprise them with these home baked Valentine's Day treats today.
