Café Kitchen Decorating Ideas
by Alyssa Davis

If you're looking for a fun, warm and homey way to decorate your kitchen, the café style could be perfect. If you love going to your neighborhood café for a relaxing cup of coffee, why not create the same enjoyable experience right in your own home? Here are some tips that will explain how to inexpensively decorate the kitchen in café style.

Choosing Great Colors

Since color can actually set the overall mood for a room, it's important to pick the perfect shades for your café kitchen. In general, you'll want to choose warm, earthy and inviting tones, since these work best for the café kitchen style. Warm shades of brown always work well, since they are reminiscent of coffee itself. Red, green and even black can also work nicely in a café kitchen. If you want to add a sunny and cheerful touch, try using yellow, either as a primary shade or as an accent color. You could even use the color theme of your favorite café as the inspiration for your own kitchen café.

Café Style Furniture Choices

When choosing a table and chair set for your kitchen, a round table usually works best. Tuck the table into the corner of the kitchen if possible to give it a cozy and intimate look and feel. Add a long tablecloth in a shade that complements the overall color scheme of the room to bring a traditional look to the space. However, if you want your café kitchen to have more contemporary flair, you could also choose a beautiful solid wood table, leaving it bare. Color coordinated cushions can add comfort to wooden chairs. Or, you could choose a booth-style table, designed to fit into the corner of a room, to add a nice retro look to your kitchen café.

Lighting and Window Treatments

Lighting is always important in the kitchen. By choosing light colored or sheer curtains, you'll get the maximum amount of natural sunlight in the room. Curtain styles that have a café look and feel to them are the best choices. In order to augment the room's natural light, you should also position light fixtures strategically throughout the kitchen. A pendant light hung over the kitchen table can add a nice touch. If you use a dimmer switch, you'll be able to adjust the light level over the table to fit your every mood.

Kitchen Accessories and Appliances

Regardless of which café kitchen decorating ideas you choose to implement, it's important to invest in the right appliances and accessories to make the whole theme work. A professionally designed full-featured coffee maker is an absolute "must have" for the café kitchen. Choose one that is designed to make a wide variety of coffee drinks. An espresso machine is also a great addition to the café kitchen. To add a fun and authentic touch, choose dishes and coffee cups or mugs that have a café look. You could even hang a chalkboard or sign where you can write the "daily specials" or menu for your new café kitchen and add a few final touches with café theme wall art.
