A child's bedroom should be well decorated to create the ideal space for playing and relaxing, and just like choosing paint colors for another room in the home, choosing the right kids bedroom paint colors is of the utmost importance. Painting is one of the least expensive ways to completely make over the look of a bedroom, and depending on the color chosen; it has the power to add the illusion of square footage for far less than the cost of remodeling. Consider the following tips and kids bedroom paint ideas on choosing the right paint colors for kids' bedroom, and give your child the room of his or her dreams.
Include your Child when Choosing a Color
Kids love to be included in decision making, especially when decisions involve decorating their bedroom. Take your child along when shopping for paint, but do not get in a hurry to make a choice. Take several paint sample cards home, and consider the colors he or she wants. Kids love bright colors, and if you feel the favored colors are too bright for the space, encourage the choice of a lighter shade of the same hue. The chosen color can be incorporated into the bedroom in many different ways, and the results will be outstanding.
Light versus Bright
Colors add vibrancy to a space, but colors that are too bright are shocking and too energetic for a bedroom, especially a child's bedroom. Lighter colors will help enlarge the look of a small bedroom. Painting the ceiling white will create the illusion of added height in the room, but painting the entire bedroom the same light color will make the bedroom appear larger. Once the new kids bedroom paint colors are on the walls, your child is sure to love the new look.
Sample the Color Before Choosing
Looking at small sample cards provided by the paint store makes it next to impossible to choose the right paint on the spot. Sure, you can find a hue you like, but it is important to remember, the color on that very small square will cover all of the walls in the room and maybe even the ceiling. It is real easy to find a likeable color, but the biggest mistake people make is choosing something too dark or too bright, and they only find out after painting the entire room. They hope the intensity will change as it dries, but it is never enough to make a difference.
Instead of taking a chance on a color that might not work well in a child's bedroom, buy a sample jar of paint, if it is offered, or buy a single quart. Paint an inconspicuous section of the bedroom wall to see if it meets expectations, or paint a poster board and allow it to dry. Once the paint is dry, place the large color sample in various locations throughout the child's bedroom to make sure it is the right choice before investing additional time and money.
Add More Color when Choosing Accessories
If your child thinks the bedroom should be more colorful, choose accessories to give the room more pizzazz. Add a colorful lamp, soft and comfy throw pillows and bedding, and color-coordinated window treatments to add a finishing touch. The addition of colorful accessories will add just the right amount of color and interest without taking over the room. Fresh coats of paint should last for several years, and as the child grows, the bedroom can be updated and rearranged to meet their changing needs and unique preferences without completely repainting.
