Contemporary Decor in the Bedroom

Your bedroom is the one place that you can relax in that you still have control over. The kids have taken over the kitchen and your spouse has taken over the living room where the television is so you have only one place to go that you can be yourself. There are several different ways that you can decorate your bedroom and one particular way is using contemporary decor.

Window Treatments

It’s important to have the right look for your windows. If you need privacy then consider blinds that can be rolled up out of the way during the day in order to let the sunlight in when needed. You can choose curtains that look airy like sheers but the most popular look is to use drapes that can be tied back in the summer and placed down for the winter.

Furniture

If you haven’t bought your furniture yet, consider going to a furniture store and having one of the sales associates show you the contemporary look in furniture. Your furniture should have a sophisticated look about it. The wood is usually dark in color and has simple pull knobs to complete the contemporary look.

Lighting

If you have a contemporary look in your room, you want to make sure that the light fixtures match the rest of the decor. Try to avoid overhead lighting and simply use bedside lamps on the tables or dressers in the room. You want a soft sophisticated glow in the room at night and the natural sunlight shinning through during the day.

Flooring

Shag rugs can complete the contemporary look in your room. These rugs can complete the contemporary style in your bedroom and make your floors feel so much warmer. If you don’t like the shag look then consider Oriental rugs instead. An Oriental rug is simple yet contemporary and can provide the right amount of sophistication you need.

Accessorize

Your bed is almost always the focal point in your bedroom so you want a contemporary look on your bed. Choose a white or cream color with rose print or you can choose a solid color instead. There are many ways to get the color choice you like the best in a contemporary look.

If you have a fireplace in the bedroom, consider placing a mantle above it and keep the mantle free of clutter. Place a few old books and a hurricane lantern on each side of the mantle. This should balance the look and create a contemporary look.

Finish the look with covering for your tables and dressers. Throw pillows are nice as long as they are in contemporary colors; nothing flashy or neon. You want to keep a simple vase of flowers in the room to balance the look and don’t forget a little bit of lace. Contemporary styles look great in the bedroom and if you want the look of sophistication then you will love the way that the contemporary style looks in your bedroom.
