Ways to Spruce Up Your Curtain Poles

It’s quite hard to think of innovative ideas to give your windows a bit of character. Often, people feel they are simply restricted to a straight choice between curtains and blinds. Whilst these may be the most convenient options for the majority of homeowners, there’s nothing to say that they can’t be customised to give your room a unique look. To many, curtain poles may simply be a necessity for window treatments, but who says they can’t be accessorized to give your windows a more polished look?

There are a number of accessories on the market that can be used to spruce up your curtain poles. One such addition are finials, which comes in a variety of wooden, glass and metal styles and really add some sophistication to your poles. There are a huge number of different choices with finials, which makes them an easy option for a lot of people. They are simply pieces that attach onto the end of curtain poles, with a design protruding from them. There’s a finial to suit any room, with designs ranging from traditional, right up to modern-day with just about everything in between too. With the option to choose from a wide range of materials and colours, finials are a safe choice for near enough every home.

If finials aren’t your thing, then another option would be midials. Whilst finials are meant to protrude from the ends of curtain poles, these are better placed around ten centimetres from the end of the pole. Unlike finials, the designs for midials are more basic and the choices are more restricted. The majority of them come in either a square of circular shape and are mostly made from glass. Having said this, the wide range of colour schemes and patterns means it’s still easy enough to choose midials to suit most rooms.

Another option to customise your curtain poles is with the addition of curtain rings or gliders. Instead of looping the curtains onto the poles, rings or gliders allow you to simply attach them, whilst adding an attractive accessory at the same time. Like finials and midials, rings and gliders are available in a wide range of designs and materials, with wooden and metal being the most popular once again. These are a particularly good addition for any curtains that are opened and closed on a regular basis.

On the other hand, if you require your curtains to be held open in a certain position, then holdbacks and tiebacks are probably the accessory for you. Both are quite self-explanatory. Holdbacks are, as you may suspect, a pair of hooks attached to a wall either side of the curtains and can be used to pin them back. Tiebacks perform a similar function, but come in the form of either rope or material that can hold the curtains back by tying them.

Whatever you want to do with your curtains, there is an accessory on the market that can fit your needs.
