Interlocking rubber floor tiles are gaining in popularity. They are inexpensive, safe for babies, nonabsorbent, easy to clean, and most of all easy to install. For homeowners or small business owners, interlocking rubber floor tiles can be used to affordably spruce up a room.
They can be used in areas such as the kitchen, kids' room, the living room, garage, or a home gym. Because of the many designs and colors available nowadays, the tiles can be used in practically any room or setting that you want comfortable but tough floor coverings.
Being so comfortable to stand and walk on makes rubber flooring a choice your feet will thank you for when you are working long hours at the sink or kitchen bench. It is also a great option in the laundry when the slip resistant nature is extra handy for the wet work spaces.
Interlocking rubber flooring tiles are especially handy for areas where you want a bit more flexibility in the décor and function of a room. If you decide to hold a BBQ you might want to use the garage as a center of the garden party, or to convert your home gym into a guest room for the holidays.
In case you are planning on holding a teenager's party and want to protect your parquetry flooring, you can simply put down the rubber tiles to take the beating for the night, or over the holidays when the house is full of rowdy guests.
In those cases, rubber floor tiles are a perfect way to get the instant effect you want, and yet be able to pack it up and store it conveniently when you want a change to the flooring.
Installing interlocking rubber floor tiles is easy, a job that you can do yourself. The tiles are made from rubber; therefore, all you need to have to get the job done is a measuring tape, a sharp knife, and a mallet.
Here are a few basic steps to follow when installing the interlocking rubber floor tiles.
Step 1 – Before purchasing the tiles, measure the area where you are going to tile. Use an online interlocking floor tile calculator to work out how many tiles and edging tiles you will require. Buy a few extra pieces, so that if you make any mistakes during cutting or measuring, you can have tiles on hand to use. You may also want to purchase reducing strips. Reducing strips are used to bring the tiled flooring and existing flooring to the same level.
Step 2 – Depending on the size and layout of your room, choose the design that best fits the room. For example if it is a small room, choose small tiles and strips so that you do not have a lot of cutting to do and the strips can be easily used to fill spaces.
Step 3 – When you are back home and ready to install the tiles, make sure that you have all the tools at hand. Clean the floor and remove as much debris as you can. Tiles may not sit well, for example, if there are small bits of grit or any rubble on the floor.
Step 4 – Lay out the tiles in the room, in the way you wish them to be placed. Start from a corner of the room and start interlocking the tiles. As you move from each tile and each corner, you may need to trim the rubber to make sure that the tiles fit perfectly. When they do, use your mallet to knock the tiles in place.
Step 5- When you’ve reached to the edge of the area you may now cut and lay the reducing strip if necessary.
This process can be completed in less than two hours and can be a quick decoration idea or topic of conversation if you plan on having friends over for a drink later. If you like you can let the flooring stay there or take it up and store it for later, which is just as easy.
Another benefit to include in your consideration is that some flooring brands are actually recycled rubber flooring and tiles. Not only are they very rugged and resist stains very well but they are also extremely friendly to the environment. You will find that many of the brands on the market are constructed from recycled rubber.
One advantage of going recycled is that they will not contain crude oil, which some manufacturers do use in rolls newly constructed from scratch. They are healthier for your family, and for the environment when you 'go green' with recycled rubber flooring.
So as you can see, there is definitely good reason to include rubber floor tiles in your kitchen decorating and home renovation plans, especially since it is so
affordable and so simple to lay the tiles yourself in a couple of hours!
