The kitchen is one of the most popular rooms in the home, and it is a room that should be comfortable, warm, and welcoming. Decorating is an easy way of personalizing a kitchen in unique ways while giving it an inviting feel. Decorating with baskets is a way to add style and practical charm. Consider the following unique ways to decorate a kitchen with basketry to give the room a completely new and rustic look. Baskets will compliment many different decorating styles, and they are an excellent choice when looking for ways to decorate a kitchen with country flair.
Create a Unique Window Valance
Valances are popular window embellishments, and when decorating a kitchen with basketry, the windows can become part of a unique woven display. Hang an attractive curtain on a standard rod halfway down the window, and create a valance made of baskets using a cafe rod and narrow satin ribbons.
Choose pairs of woven baskets of graduating sizes and narrow satin ribbon to match the primary colors in kitchen curtains. The pairs of baskets necessary for decorating a kitchen window will depend upon the width of the window you are decorating. You will also need clear thread, a cafe rod with decorative wrought iron finials, matching rod brackets, and a pair of sharp scissors.
Begin by mounting the brackets and the decorative rod. Choose the largest pair of baskets to hang from the ends of the rods, and tie them securely to matching lengths of clear thread. Tie the suspended baskets to the ends of the rods. Next, tie equal lengths of clear thread approximately four inches shorter than the last to another pair of matching baskets. Suspend them from the rod next to the first pair of baskets. Continue this process of tying on baskets, but tie the smallest ones to the center of the rod using satin ribbon instead of clear thread. Tie a small satin bow to the base of each looped ribbon to give this unique kitchen decorating scheme a finished appearance. Lastly, turn every other basket facing outward for a more interesting display.
This unique way of decorating a kitchen with baskets is sure to generate many compliments, and you will love the way they highlight your view of the outdoors. Best of all, the texture and unique design will give the kitchen irresistible charm and lasting appeal that you will enjoy for years to come.
Decorating Open Kitchen Cabinetry with Basketry
If cabinet doors are worn, or if you are tired of the look of ordinary kitchen cabinets, make a drastic change that includes decorating with basketry. Remove cabinet doors, and cover the holes left by the screws with decorative wood banding. Use the open cabinets to hold attractive fabric-lined baskets that fit the openings. The contents will not show, and the baskets can be used to hold everything from dinner plates to snack chips.
Baskets are available in all price ranges, styles, and sizes, and you are sure to find beautiful baskets that are just right for decorating your kitchen. They are versatile decorating accessories that are as practical as they are decorative. If you ever become tired of the look of the basketry, simply change the fabric liners, or use them for decorating elsewhere in the home. Baskets have been used in the home for centuries, and they are a wonderful way to begin decorating a kitchen of almost any style or theme.
