5 Quick Ways to Make Your Teenage Bedroom Look More Mature

There comes a time when you've been living at home for a while, you've grown up, you're getting more mature but you are still living out of the bedroom you've had since you were born.

Naturally this bedroom will have elements of things from all your childhood experiences but the chances are once you come out of your teenage years you are going to look back at your room and wish it just looked a little more mature. If you can't redecorate your entire room. Here are my top five tips for making your room like more adult and mature without gutting it and starting again.

1. Put Your Posters in Frames Nine out of ten teenagers have posters in their room. Chances are they are for things you love, or they look really arty, but pinned to a wall or blue-tacked to a wall they are going to look scruffy and immature. Buy some simple frames and hang your posters in them. You will be amazed at the difference it makes, and you can still keep all your old posters too.

2. Put a Rug on the Floor

If your floor is messy or your carpet or floor is getting old, get a rug and place it on the floor. You can find simple cheap rugs that look great, or get a big faux fur rug if you want something more warm and luxurious looking. Having a rug will keep your feet warm, look great, and will help you keep at least one area of your room clean, they also look great in contrasting colours or on a wooden floor.

3. Plants

Buy some plants, anything from bamboo or a cactus which require very little maintenance to something requiring a little more attention such as a bonsai tree. Or you can take the middle ground and have some pot plants or trees or some herbs that will also make your room smell nice. Just make sure to pick something that you will actually have the time to care for, and place them in nice mature looking pots or vases.

4. Display any Must Keep Toys in Lit Cabinets

If you really must keep your toys and items from your childhood - why not buy a cheap glass lit display cabinet from ikea. You can display your favourite figures and toys and still have them on the display without looking like a child with a messy room.

5. Get a Throw for your Bed

If you still have the same bed covers you have owned for years, you can either get yourself some new plain or simple patterned sheets or you can buy a simple throw or blanket to put on top of your bed. You will be amazed at the effect of just having a throw that covers roughly a third of the way up your bed.

Bonus simple tips - Keep your room tidy, keep all mess hidden away. If you painted your walls black or another dark color, try and repaint them if you can. Bring the shades down and pick something lighter and more neutral. Get some nice cushions for your bed or any seating areas if you have room. Although they might not always be practical they will instantly make your room look more adult and mature.
