You know it is time to modernize your bedroom when you awake from slumber to a bedroom which doesn’t leave you feeling snug and warm inside, but instead has you feeling tired, bored and uninspired. The bedroom should ooze tranquility. Don’t worry, upgrading an outdated bedroom can be done with a few basic changes.
1. Get a handle on things
Buying some new handles and knobs for more modern elements can transform a dresser and other bedroom items into unique, stand-out pieces in the bedroom. You can also change the door knobs to add a fresh new look to the bedroom.
2. A new outlook to windows
Make a statement in your bedroom with some stylish window treatments. Extended drapes can add depths to the walls and give the bedroom that feeling of grandeur. Matching the drapes to the wall will give a softer and more contemporary feel. Valances can also add drama and style to the room. These window dressings will soften some of the light coming through. However, drapes will need to be added for privacy.
3. No need for a pillow fight
To help with your bedroom overhaul, add pillows that coordinate with the bedding design you have chosen. Selecting colors from the bedspread will allow you to highlight your favorite color in the room and add a new look. You can select a range of different sized and shaped pillows. When buying decorative pillow shams look at the style of the bedroom. Decide if the bedroom is a child’s room, for a young couple, or for a teenager and decorate accordingly.
4. Light up your room
New lighting can add a distinct look to the room. Think about where you need your lighting - such as where you will be choosing clothes or if it is a child’s room, where dimmers might be an option for security and comfort. Also think about softer and more subtle light near the bed to make it easier to fall asleep or adjust to the morning light.
5. Be floored
If you are looking to makeover the flooring in your bedroom, you can browse the wide variety of quality flooring options available at reasonable prices through various companies. Don’t want the expense of revamping your flooring? Think about a rug as a great way to transform the look of the room without the expense of brand new flooring.
6. Using your head
Adding a headboard can drastically enhance the look of a room. To revamp an existing headboard consider painting, staining or reupholstering it to bring out the design of the comforter set. This will be cheaper and more satisfying than buying a new headboard. If you’re looking for an inexpensive, do-it-yourself option, measure the width and height of the bed and create your own personally designed headboard using paint, upholstery or wallpaper. Simply map out your new headboard, create a plan and get decorating.
7. A lick of paint
Painting is a surefire way to add a new dimension to your bedroom. A fresh coat of paint is an easy and relatively inexpensive way to add new life to the bedroom. In order to select your, think long and hard about not only the colours you like, but also the size and shape of the room. To make a space appear larger and brighter can be as easy as using lighter colours on your walls. This is especially so for rooms with limited natural light. Decrease the height of a room by painting the ceiling a color that is darker. For an even more intimate space, choose a dark color for the flooring to visually bring the ceiling and floor closer together. Try using a feature wall in a lighter tone on the far wall paired with warmer hues on the other walls to give the look of a narrower room.
8. Bed overhaul
The key focal point of a bedroom is, of course, the bed. But this isn’t just because it is the biggest item in the room. The bed is a place of rest and relaxation and is the hub where all of life’s hustle and bustle can be slept away. It is crucial to select colors and materials to mirror your personality. If you love the outdoors, zebra bed sheets might be a small way to reflect your adventurous side, while those with a more chilled out personality might prefer solid, softer tones.
9. Release the clutter
The cheapest and easiest way to add new life to your bedroom is to get rid of the old space fillers which are not only cluttering your bedroom, but your life. The bedroom should be kept simple and be an inviting place to put your head down after a long day at. Think seriously about which items should remain in your fresh, new sleeping quarters and which can be stored away. Lastly, discard the remaining items which now serve no purpose in your life but to give you that utter satisfaction of lightning the load.
