Setting a romantic mood in the bedroom begins with the room's decor. Piles of dirty laundry, heaps of clothes that need to be put away and shoes scattered around the floor will do little to help create a romantic setting. After the room is straightened and cleaned, consider adding some finishing decor touches that will enhance the romantic feel of the room.
Bedding
When thinking about the bedroom, the focal point of the room is typically the bed. Begin there when considering options for creating a romantic decor. Blankets, quilts and comforters in romantic colors and hues will instantly create more of a romantic feel. Reds, purples, whites and blacks with warm undertones are all great choices for bedding. Also consider using fabrics that are soft and luxurious. Starched material and unattractive patterns will do little for creating a romantic ambiance. Opt instead for items made from velvets, satins, silks and chenille. By making the focal point of the room a romantic spot, it will be easier to create romantic appeal in the rest of the room.
Lighting
Lighting is extremely important to consider when creating a romantic mood. Bright, harsh, fluorescent lights are impersonal and more reminiscent of a hospital than they are of a romantic setting. Choose soft lighting instead. Bedside lamps with low-wattage bulbs, a dimmed overhead chandelier, strands of mini-lights draped around the bed posts or on the curtain rods, or the soft, romantic glow of candlelight all work well for creating a romantic mood. If setting out candles around the room, be sure to use common sense and caution. Keep open flames away from fabrics and place candles on sturdy surfaces that will not be potentially knocked over. For all their beauty, if a candle sets the room on fire, the romantic mood will quickly be extinguished.
Decorations
Decorations need not be elaborate when creating a romantic mood in a room. A vase with beautiful, fresh, open roses set on a bedside table is a wonderful, aromatic accent for the bedroom. Roses are the flower of love and create an instantly romantic feel. Also consider spreading rose petals out on the bed to add visual delight to the room's focal point. Red roses are the typical flower associated with a romance, but whites and pinks are also beautiful choices. The warmer the color, the more romantic the feel of the room will be.
For the floor, a fluffy white fur throw rug adds texture beneath your feet and visual warmth to the space. Inexpensive, plush throw rugs in the romantic accent colors can also help create the mood. Again, look for fabrics that are lush in texture for the ultimate in a romantic escape.
When adding romantic decor to the bedroom, remember that it is the small things that require an attention to detail that mean the most. Romantic instrumental music playing in the background, soft lit candles and plush, luxurious fabrics will all create a romantic mood. Take the time to make the room a private escape and enjoy the presence of love.
