5 Home Decorating Tips for Small Rooms
Description: Tips for giving a small room the illusion of being larger.

What can you do if your apartment is small?
Have you been allocated a tiny room that makes you feel claustrophobic?
You can create space and a cozy ambience in spite of the actual size
of your living quarters. Here are 5 useful tips that would really help.
1. Create the Illusion of a Luxurious Living Area Behind the Curtains.
You know those homes where a large, gorgeous garden, or a patio with
wide open spaces lie behind the heavy drapes. You can create that
illusion by having floor to ceiling, closed heavy curtains against the
entire length of the wall.
Go for luxurious fabrics that would give the room a rich ambience and
makes the room cozy.
2. Make the Most of the Existing Light.
Light creates space. Open windows and a well lit room would make the
room feel more spacious. Reflective surfaces too would reflect light
within the room, making the most of existing light. Mirrors on the
walls would make the room feel more spacious.
3. Reduce Clutter.
In a small room, you can't afford clutter. The mess would make the
room feel even more crowded. Make the most of existing unused spaces
in the room for storage. That space beneath the window, hidden by the
curtains can be used to store shoes, or boxes for your belongings.
Built in cabinets to make the most of all the odd spaces would let you
store your stuff out of sight. Keep all visible surfaces clear and
hide the clutter out of sight.
4. Double the Space with Mirror Panels.
Line the wall with mirrors. Have you seen a cafe or a room with a wall
covered entirely by a giant mirror or panels of mirrors side by side?
The reflection of your room in the mirror looks like yet another room,
visually doubling the apparent space in that small room, making it
appear to be twice its real size.
5. Go for Glass.
Glass topped tables appear to float in the room. The near invisibility
of glass gives you the appearance of more empty space. Try clear
plastic furniture. Use glass blocks for dividers. Glass allows light
to travel through freely, which would make the room appear more
spacious.
There is no need to feel claustrophobic in your room. With a few
carefully planned touches, your tiny room can look more spacious and
feel cosier.
