How to Decorate a Boy's Room with a Superhero Theme
by Rachel Paxton

If you are looking for ideas to re-decorate your elementary-aged son's bedroom, why not go with a superhero theme?

batman bedroomMost young boys love superheroes. What's not to like? Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Captain America, Wolverine..there are many superheroes to choose from. You would be surprised at all the superhero-themed bedroom accessories you can find. Many items can be purchased inexpensively at Target or Walmart.

If you don't have a lot of time to spend on a total bedroom makeover, there are many accessories you can now buy that make your job really easy. When we moved to our new house, I didn't want to spend the time to re-paint the bedrooms. The colors were already neutral, the bedrooms just needed some accessorizing. The total makeover took less than one hour, and didn't require any painting.

We have twin six-year-old boys, and both of them love superheroes. Of course they couldn't agree on the same superhero, so they each chose their favorite and we tried to incorporate both superheroes into their overall room theme.

wolverine bedroomOne of our boys chose Wolverine and Superman as his favorite superheroes. His brother chose Batman. Fortunately it is easy to find room accessories featuring these characters. All you have to do is search Amazon or Ebay and you can find pages of great bedroom accessories.

Walmart and Target have a variety of bedroom accessories featuring favorite superheroes. I have seen bedding featuring Hulk, Spiderman, Batman, and Transformers. You can find sheet sets, comforters, fleece blankets, and even coordinating curtains.

Another item that is great to accessorize with is posters. Walmart has a variety of posters for about $5. I found two Marvel superhero posters that my boys loved. If you want to spend a little extra you can also frame the posters.

superman bedroomI decided to buy most of our items online from Amazon, mostly to save time and also to be able to order everything all at once. This also gave my boys a chance to look at all the items with me and pick out their favorites. I bought bedding for each of their beds (Batman for one, and Wolverine for the other), Batman curtains, a Marvel superheroes wallpaper border, a giant Batman wall sticker, and a giant Superman wall sticker. I bought two posters later at Walmart.

Wall stickers are great. You can find many different characters. The stickers are a couple of feet tall and wide. They are just a big sticker. You peel off the backing and stick them on the wall. They won't take the paint off your wall. You can easily peel them off and re-position them.

Removable wall borders work the same way. You just peel off the backing and stick them on the wall. They peel off just like the wall stickers. So in less than an hour, we put up a wall border all the way around the top of their walls, and put their wall stickers up over their beds. They look great!

Put up a couple of Batman curtains, and we were done! Later on I found a package of smaller wall stickers at Target that also featured a variety of superheroes. The small stickers are great because you can use them to fill in smaller spaces and you can also use them on furniture. I used these to decorate one of their dressers and the dresser looks great.

Following is a list of what we spent on our boys' superhero bedroom:

Wolverine Bedding for Twin Bed - $50
Batman Bedding for Twin Bed - $65
Batman Curtains - $30
Marvel Heroes Peel & Stick Border - $39
Superman Day Of Doom Peel & Stick Giant Applique -$20
Batman The Dark Knight Peel and Stick Giant Applique - $20
Marvel Superhero Posters - $10

Total: $234

Our boys love their new bedroom. It is now truly a superhero hangout.
