Cluttered Home? Bring Sanity to Your Living Space with Labeling
Description: Tips for using an electronic labeler for organizing the clutter in your home.
According to professional organizers most of us accumulate more stuff than we need. Eventually, this stockpiling of our "favorite" things leads to a house filled with clutter and disorganization. If you have had enough of this mess but you don't know where to start think two words: sort and label.
Professional organizers recommend the first step to a saner living space is to make some decisions and get rid of what's unnecessary. It isn't easy, but giving things away or holding a yard sale will go a long way toward decluttering your life. When you're down to the 'keep' pile, figure out what goes where. Group things with a common purpose and create easy access to things you use frequently.
OK, that's the sort. Now the label. A good electronic labeler is the must-have tool for home organization. The applications for these sanity-saving devices are practically endless:
- In the basement - the fuse box, your luggage, tools, gardening materials, fishing tackle.
- In the home office - files and folders, storage boxes, computer gear, CD's and DVD's.
- In the kid's room - shelves, drawers, toy boxes, school supplies, even clothes, using iron-on fabric tape!
- In the kitchen - spices, preserves, leftovers, food in the freezer.
Electronic label makers date back almost 20 years to when Brother introduced their popular P-touch brand. Today, they can be purchased in most office supplies stores along with tapes in a variety of widths and colours. Most label makers include built-in label templates and a choice of font types and sizes or frames. Some manufacturers have laminated tapes down to a science. Brother's "TZ" tapes for example, are virtually indestructible, resistant to scrapes, abrasions, water, UV rays and extreme temperature.
Reports of people getting addicted to their electronic labelers are only partly exaggerated. But if organizing your home can be made this simple and fun, it's worth the risk!
