Once in a while everyone gets to a point where many things stored in the garage start to look like a big terrible mess. It usually becomes obvious when you need to find something but cannot do it because of the vast number of things laying around. Then it's time to get down to work. You will find that having everything in its place creates more room in the garage able to hold extra stuff such as bicycles and cars in a place where you can reach, see and use them at will. There are a number of things you need to have in mind before organizing the garage.
First, you must know where everything needs to be put. Since the garage has an underutilized wall space, make sure it is systematically arranged and assigned together with the floor space. Do not forget the ceiling storage space ignored by many since inserting a number of strong hooks will make it the best place to hold your luggage, ladders and even bicycles. Coming up with storage shelves installed upon the ceiling comes handy in holding up seasonally or rarely used items such as storm doors, window screens, outdoor lights or even camping gear. Do not forget to go for stylish garage doors to demonstrate the garage has been transformed.
You can create more space to organize garage items better through built-in shelves to provide the much needed space for different types of items such as bags, boxes, flower pots, automotive supplies, buckets, mulch, spray bottles and paint cans. It is important to make sure they have been arranged by the shelves in terms of category with similar objects together. Have a drawer system attached on the shelves for storage of small items or store them in larger bins or boxes able to sit atop the firm projections. Do not forget to attach respective identification labels on the boxes or bins.
The process of organizing will bring up the fact that certain items require a unique way of handling. In certain cases, you might want to have a certain area of the garage designated as a home office, workshop or a place for your sport or hobby. The sport might be cycling, golf, skiing, tennis or badminton and you will find that to organize garage requires the equipments for the sports to be stored well on the walls to give a tidy and neat look rather than leaving everything just about anywhere on the floor.
In case you want some space to simply organize wrenches, nails and other tools used occasionally, find a tool box you can carry around or a rack that will keep them safely. The tool box or rack can be left in the basement or garage as per the space and needs you might have.
Gardening equipment should also be a compelling reason to organize garage stuff not only to store the shovels, spades, rakes and hoes but also to repot, sprout and seed greenery and blossoms. There must be some enough space for sprinkling cans, pots and potting soil, among others. An organized garage also means a little gardening can also be done there.
Finally, do not forget to organize garage things through recycling. Use stackable types of bins that do not occupy a lot of space. Find some hand cart to help save time and energy in wheeling all clutter or trash once without making many trips to and fro.
