Before we had children, we could do as we pleased, whenever we pleased. We only had to be responsible for ourselves. Now, if you’re a parent, you have several responsibilities. Between making sure your children have clean clothes to wear to making sure they eat a healthy dinner, your multitasking has somewhat run your life.
Time management is something you need as a parent. It will help organize your life, leave you feeling less stressed, and you will actually be able to accomplish more than you may have thought. Need some tips on how to manage your time better as a parent? Continue reading below!
4 Ways to Manage Your Time Better:
Get out the calendar: First of all, you want to get out a calendar. This should be for organizing the month only. For example, on the day your daughter has dance, write the times. Write down when the children have no school, when they have a dentist appointment and everything from parent teacher conferences to your sons’ baseball games. This will allow you to look ahead, and will enable you to see which days are free.
Assign tasks: Although we’re pretty good at multitasking, we can’t do it all. Make sure you assign tasks to certain people. If your husband can pick up your daughter from volleyball on the way home from work, have him do it. Have your son cut the grass and take out the trash every Monday, or even have your daughter keep her room clean and have her make her bed every morning.
Your family needs to realize they need to contribute and help out from an early age. When they do, they will be more grateful for the things you do, as well as be a big help at the same time!
Certain days for certain things: To organize your schedule even more, have certain days for certain things. For example, go grocery shopping on Tuesday night when it’s slow, catch up on any unfinished laundry on Thursdays and make sure your children get all the help they need and are organized with their schoolwork on Mondays.
Good communication with your children and their grades is important! This shows them that you care, and are willing to help them when they need it. It will also keep them focused and organized for the week.
Relaxing time: Our lives are so on the go and hectic these days. Make sure you take time to relax. You should try and spend one full day with your family each week. Whether it’s on the weekends or even after school, make the time. This allows you to catch up with what’s going on in their life, and allows that special bonding time that won’t last forver.
As you can see, there are several ways to organize your life and to stretch your days to make them longer. Whether you wake up an hour earlier every morning, or you assign tasks to everyone in your household, you can make the days seem longer, and accomplish even more throughout the day!
