Packing for a move can be a daunting process, whether you are moving across the country or across town. Knowing methods and packing solutions is important, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal damage to household goods and personal possessions.
Perhaps most challenging is packing clothes because of the hangers. You may choose to pack most of your clothing in plastic bags or suitcases for convenience, but for specific articles of clothing that need to remain on hangers, wardrobe boxes can come in handy. Wardrobe boxes are designed with the needs of special clothing in mind, with a rod secured inside the box to hang clothing sensitive to wrinkles like suits, dresses, and jackets. This allows you to hang all of your delicate clothing neatly in a box that you can carry right out to the moving truck without a hassle.
When choosing packing solutions for kitchen items, take special care. Consider taking small groups of utensils and rolling them neatly in packing paper, securing them with tape. Silverware may be packed similarly, but instead of using packing paper, consider using tissue paper to avoid tarnishing the silver. Dishes may receive the same treatment. Wrap each piece individually in two layers of packing paper for protection during transport and secure with tape.
Packing the living room items can be a challenge. Take the time to organize your things carefully and make sure not to overfill one box with too many heavy items like books. Picture frames, knickknacks, and other small items from shelves and end tables should be wrapped in packing paper, secured with tape, and packed in the same box. Consider writing on each moving box with a general description of the contents and the rooms they came from to ensure a smoother unpacking process.
Electronics are especially fragile and should be handled with care. Consider wrapping up heavier items like the television and the desktop computer with towels and bubble wrap to protect the screens during the move. Wires and cables can be tricky to untangle and pack properly, so take the time to fold each one neatly and secure them with rubber bands or cable ties. Also consider putting the cables in plastic bags so that you remember which one goes with which appliance.
Items from the garage should also be packed with care. When organizing, make sure to dust everything off and check to see if any bugs have nested in your belongings. Large items like beds and couches are usually the last to go and require more taxing furniture removals. Furniture removals are usually team efforts, especially with heavy couches, and for those larger jobs, consider asking for help from friends and family.
Moving can be a challenging process requiring time, planning, and a lot of effort. With these tips, you can make the process that much easier, protecting your household goods for transport and speeding up the unpacking process when you reach your destination.
