It's Time to Specialize

Description: Tips for teaching moms to prioritize and organize their time and responsibilities.
Do you feel like you’re running around like the metaphorical chicken
with it’s head cut off? Everyone has those days from time to time; but
if you do this on a constant basis, it’s time to specialize!
How would you like for your heart surgeon to spend only marginal
amounts of time on actually learning about hearts? It doesn’t matter if his
education is well rounded and he can also do brain surgery and knows a
little something about nutrition. If he doesn’t know his profession,
it doesn’t matter what else he knows. All of that extra stuff is not
going to help you!
That is how it is with our lives. We try to do everything, and end up
doing poorly at the few things that we actually end up getting around
to.
Maria is a mother and wife who works part-time. Since she’s not
holding down a real “career” she feels that she needs to fulfill all of the
obligations of a stay-at-home mom. She works out to stay in shape. She
cooks. She cleans. She works. She reads to the kids. She shuttles
them back and forth to ballet and soccer. She feels like she has to do
everything. On top of all of this, she wants to work on her education
in order to get a “real” job when the kids get older. She feels pulled
in every direction, and she doesn’t truly accomplish any of her goals,
not even the important ones. Do you see the problem?
So how do you specialize? You decide what your priorities are, and you
stick to them. You put them first. You let your priorities define who
you are.
Take Martha Stewart. She is a domestic goddess. That is what she
does. She doesn’t have the body of a super model. She isn’t a
stay-at-home mom. She probably doesn’t drive the carpool. She specializes.
Or a Super Model. Sure, she has a great body. That is what she does.
She probably doesn’t cook a home cooked meal every night. She probably
spends a great deal of time exercising. She doesn’t have four kids
demanding her every moment. She specializes.
Or the stay-at-home mom that you are so envious of. Sure she bakes
cookies for every bake sale and volunteers in the kids’ school. But she
probably has to stay on a strict budget. She doesn’t parade through the
school in designer clothes. She specializes.
Or any other successful woman who is actually happy. She doesn’t do
everything. She does the things that she wants to do, and she does them
well. She sets her priorities, and God forbid anybody gets in her way.
And isn’t that how it should be?
If you don’t know where to start, here are some ideas….
1. Go to http://www.SimplyPerfect.net/yourperfectlife to find ways to
establish your priorities.
2. Choose the first few priorities and set them in stone. If you
decide that you're going to read to your kids every night, then no season
finale of "Friends" should be able to veer you away from that very
important priority.
3. Once you have built a firm base, you can add other activities that
are lower on the priority list.
You can be a mother who exercises or a career woman who cooks dinner
every night, but you have to choose which is the most important priority.
If you hit a time when you cannot do both, there is a sense of peace in
knowing which is truly most important to you.
