If you are looking for an easy cheese ball recipe for an easy snack or appetizer, then you have to give this recipe a try. The cheese balls are baked, not fried, and one serving (5 cheese balls) is only 3 Weight Watchers Points Plus points! And did I mention how great they taste?
You can make these cheese balls with either small cubes of cut up cheese, or cut up string cheese. I used low fat mozzarella string cheese.
This recipe takes a little preparation ahead of time. You need to freeze the cheese for an hour or two before preparing so that it will not completely melt when you put it in the oven. I froze my cheese cubes for about an hour and a half and they turned out great. Cut each cheese stick into approxmiately 5 cheese cubes and place in a ziploc bag in the freezer.
Ingredients:
6 low-fat mozzarella cheese sticks
1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 c. skim milk
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray.
Combine bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, and garlic powder in a bowl, and place milk in another bowl. Roll frozen cheese cubes first in milk, then in bread crumb mixture, then place them on the cookie sheet.
Bake for approximately 10 minutes, until bread mixture browns. Cheese will be soft, but shouldn't melt completely.
Remove from oven and serve with your favorite dipping sauce. These are great with pizza sauce or ranch dressing.
For this recipe, one serving = 1 cheese stick or approximately 5 cheese balls. I used 6 cheese sticks to calculate the necessary ingredients.
A big thanks to this blogger for this great idea.
