How to Make Chicken Rice Mix
My family really enjoys having rice with dinner. We have tried many of the Rice a Roni flavors, and chicken flavored and herb and rice are our favorites. In the past I have made a homemade herb rice mix, and my family really enjoyed it, so I decided to try a chicken rice mix. It's easy to make, inexpensive, and just as good as store bought!
- 4 c. long grained white rice
- 4 tbsp. chicken boullion granules
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. dried tarragon
- 2 tsp. dried parsley
- 1/4 tsp. white pepper
Stir all of the ingredients together in a large bowl to make sure everything gets mixed together well. Make sure to use regular rice, not instant rice. You can buy large quantities of rice very inexpensively at wholesale grocery stores and store it in 5 gallon containers.
You can store the mix in one large airtight container, or divide into 1 1/3 cup portions and store in 3 pint sized jars or containers. This mix can be stored for about 6 months.
One 1 1/3 cup portion makes 4 cups cooked rice.
To prepare rice, combine 1 1/3 cups chicken rice mix with 2 cups cold water and 1 tablespoon butter or margarine. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for about 20 minutes, until liquid is completely absorbed.
Serves 4 to 6 people.
