I have been looking for lowfat, low calorie alternatives to favorite family desserts. When you are on a diet, it is hard to stay away from cakes and cookies, but if you have a lowfat substitute, you can still have one or two and not blow your diet.
This recipe is very easy to make and does not contain any butter or oil, significantly reducing the calories when compared to regular brownies. Applesauce is used as a replacement for the butter, and you can't taste the applesauce at all in the finished product.
I had my son who loves brownies taste test them for me, and he gave them an enthusiastic thumbs up. AND, I can have one and still stay on my diet. I have included the Weight Watchers Points Plus value below. You can easily double this recipe to fit into a 13x9-inch baking pan.
Ingredients:
1 c. flour
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. lowfat milk
1/4 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp. vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray an 8x8 baking pan with cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugars, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk, applesauce, and vanilla until just blended. Pour into greased pan.
Bake for 40 minutes. Cool in pan before cutting.
Servings = 16. 1 serving = 3 Weight Watchers Points Plus.
