Homemade Magic Shell Ice Cream Topping
Did you know that you can make your own magic shell ice cream topping from two simple ingredients? No artificial flavors or preservatives, and your kids will love it! This topping hardens as soon as it hits your ice cream, just like the store bought version.
I found this recipe for magic shell ice cream topping and had to give it a try. It is very easy to make.
- 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup coconut oil (measured when solid)
You can find coconut oil in the grocery store with the other cooking oils. It is in a solid form that melts when heated. This is the key ingredient that turns the chocolate hard when it is frozen.
Place chocolate chips and coconut oil together in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute and stir. Mixture will thicken as it cools.
Store in a jar with a lid, such as a pint-sized canning jar. This will store for several months in the refrigerator.
When ready to use, microwave until warm and runny again and pour over ice cream. Enjoy your magic shell treat!
