Recently I saw a couple of articles for making homemade maple syrup. Well obviously it isn't REAL maple syrup, it is artificially flavored, but this syrup seriously costs pennies to make instead of the several dollars you pay for a bottle at the store. And it is really good!
To make homemade maple syrup you will need:
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. water
Combine the above ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 3 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract and 1/2 tsp. maple flavoring.
Store in the refrigerator. Serve warm or cold. I found a great syrup pourer at Walmart for about $3. Looks just like the restaurant kind!
I was really impressed with the flavor of this syrup. It is very inexpensive, easy to make, and your family will never know the difference.
